Physical activity can support strength, balance, and everyday function. A suitable routine might include walking, adapted movement, strengthening, or balance activities, depending on the person’s abilities.
Start Safely
For older adults with health conditions, limited mobility, or recent falls, ask the healthcare team which activities and how much assistance are appropriate. Begin with manageable activities and adapt as needed.
Make It Social
Movement is often more enjoyable with others: a short walk outside, chair exercises with music, or an outing to a park.
What to Ask Care Homes
When comparing care settings, ask how residents with different abilities can take part. An activity calendar is helpful, but it is just as important to understand who helps residents and how activities are adjusted to their needs and preferences.
